Build a new lawn
The best time to build a new lawn is early autumn. At that time, the soil is warm and it will help the seed to germinate quickly.
Here are a few steps:
* First measure the area thoroughly before purchasing new seed.
* The seed box states the weight of seed that is needed per sqaure yard of soil. So you can mark out a small area of 1 square yard and weigh the seed. Distribute the seed evenly. Then you can use that area as a reference what the appropriate sowing rate look like when the seed is on the ground.
* When you spread the seed, don’t sow the seed too thin or too thick. Sparse grass is more prone to weeds, algae, and moss, which requires more work later on. But too thick is not good either because overcrowding will slow the growth.
* Lay a plastic sheet with a straightedge over the area you don’t want to sow, then sow the seed right on the board or plastic.
* After the sowing, give the grass seed plenty water.
