How to Divide Bulbs
In April, the weather is mild and wet, it is time to divide perennials, especailly summer flowering and fall flowering perennials and bulbs like nerines. To divide bulbs, lift the clumps and shake off as much soil as possible. Then carefully separate them out and clean each bulb. While doing that, keep as much root as possible and peel off brown debris and leave the white skin intact. The next step is to replant each bulb at the same depth, about 2 inch apart. To achieve succession of flowers in summer, it’s time to plant some summer-flowering bulbs such as dahlias, cannas, and gladioli in April.
