Summer Gardening Tips

Summer might be the busiest time of the year for most of gardeners. There are a lot of things to work on in the garden. From month to month, there would be different tasks. In early summer, you might want to divide and tidy spring flowering perennials, clear out spring bedding, thin out annuals sown, cut the faded bulbs, start to sow seed of perennials. Some of summer flowers you can start to plant are dahilas, veronica, alchemila, and etc. You might also start to plant summer bedding in borders and containers. Once the summer is here, you want to deadhead flowers as they fade, water plants regularly, and start to plant fall flowering bulbs. You can also start transplanting seedlings of biennials sown and collect seed from plants you like to propagate. When watering, first concentrate on plants growing in containers, pots and hanging baskets as they can dry out very rapidly, frequently in the course of a few hours and then on newly planted shrubs and trees as they are very susceptible to shriveled pressure.

You may contine to trim and fertilize lawns to keep the lawn in good condition. Whe it is dry, you can raise the mower’s blades and mow less frequently so the grass can retain more leaf area to cope with the dry condition. To save water, it is not necessary to water your lawn a lot if you live in an area where it often rains. If you have to, once a week is good enough because the grass will soon recover when it starts to rain even the lawn will turn brown in dry days.
